Innovations for the energy turnaround

The Centre for Solar Energy and Hydrogen Research Baden-Württemberg (ZSW) is an industry-oriented research institute that drives the energy transition with innovative solutions ranging from materials research to complex energy systems. Its key areas include photovoltaics, wind energy, batteries, fuel cells, electrolysis, eFuels, recycling management and the use of artificial intelligence (AI) for process optimisation. Outstanding current large-scale projects include electrolysis research in Stuttgart, the HyFaB project to develop the mass production of fuel cells, and the Powder-Up pilot plant to develop and scale up innovative cathode materials for batteries in Ulm. In the field of systems analysis, ZSW evaluates technologies and develops recommendations for politics, industry and society. Through machine learning, ZSW supports companies in their transformation towards sustainable business models. Together with industry, the institute accelerates the market introduction of climate-friendly future technologies. With around 350 employees, ZSW makes a significant contribution to a sustainable future.
