Thermal behaviour and thermal design of batteries, e-machines and thermal management components

At the Institute of Thermal Process Engineering (TVT) we have been pursuing the topic of electric mobility for over a decade. We clearly focus on thermal aspects. Our topics range from innovative heat exchanger concepts, thermal-electrochemical behaviour and the design of lithium-ion batteries to highly efficient cooling solutions for electric drive motors.

Our goal is to develop understanding and predictive models for the complex thermal transport processes and the corresponding fluid dynamic, electrical and electrochemical effects in respective applications.

We always rely on a combination of experiment-based and numerical methods. The resulting optimised thermal designs contribute decisively to improved performance, longer service life, higher energy efficiency and reduced requirements for installation space and material usage in all the above-mentioned applications.
