Metallic bipolar plates expedite the global breakthrough of the fuel cell drive.
REINZ-Dichtungs-GmbH, a subsidiary of the US automotive supplier Dana Incorporated, has been producing sealing technology as well as heat- and sound-absorbing shielding parts for combustion engines for over 100 years.
The transition at the Neu-Ulm production site is in full swing and has already been very successful: REINZ uses unique technological selling points and develops innovations for the electrification of mobility — from fuel cell to battery technology. The focus is on metallic bipolar plates as well as gaskets, heat shields, beaded sheets sealing solutions and heat shielding sheets for high-voltage batteries. Solutions that improve the efficiency of battery cells and thus increase the range of electric cars are also under development.
With Dana's metallic bipolar plate, high power densities can be achieved. The high level of integration, such as the integrated sealing solution using metal beading technology, leads to competitive costs of metallic bipolar plates as well as the overall system. This means that the technology from Neu-Ulm has the potential to change mobility in the long term. The annual output figures will soon reach seven digits.
Dana Incorporated employs 42,000 people worldwide at over 150 locations in 31 countries, 1,300 of which work in Neu-Ulm.
