At the forefront in theory. Unbeatable in practice.

The Baden-Wuerttemberg Cooperative State University Mannheim offers an electric mobility degree programme since the winter term of 2013/2014. This was an early response to the current and future demand for mechatronics-electric mobility engineers and consolidated the extensive previous activities in electric mobility at the same time.

This was motivated by the mobility industry being one of the largest or even the largest industrial employer in Germany and some other major industrial nations (e.g. China, USA, Japan). Furthermore, the introduction of electric drives to combustion engine mobility is the biggest change the mobility industry has seen in more than 100 years. This change affects, for example, the commercial vehicle and passenger car sectors, to name just two of the affected sectors.

To meet the qualification requirements of the cooperating partners, a laboratory for electric mobility has been set up at the Mannheim site (Eppelheim). This laboratory enables extensive experimental studies on energy converters and storage systems, which provide students with insights into the challenges of electric mobility. The laboratory is also designed in such a way that, in the sense of application and transfer-oriented cooperative research and development, new concepts, processes and strategies can be investigated in cooperation with industrial and university partners.
