With its research focus on modern mobility and sustainable energy systems, Ulm University of Applied Sciences (THU) works on the central issues of the future and makes an important contribution to the technological, ecological and social development in the region and the country.
THU offers students practical bachelor's and master's degree programmes; it is possible to gain a doctorate via the doctoral centre of the universities of applied sciences. The institutes of THU work closely with partners from science, industry and society across disciplines.
At the Institute of Energy Technology and Energy Economics (IEE), teaching and research in the field of energy storage for cross-sector applications is consolidated. Another focus is on electric drives. The IEE offers know-how, measurement technology and infrastructure for the measurement and control of electric motors (max. 400 kW) with test beds and power analysers.
We conduct research in the field of electrochemical storage (ageing effects and optimised charging infrastructure) and work on numerous projects, including the integration of hydrogen generation (electrolysis) and hydrogen utilisation (fuel cell and H2 gas turbine), as well as in the field of electric drive technology.
For further analyses, the THU also offers, among other things, an acoustic chamber, an EMC chamber, as well as test beds for battery cells (incl. climate chamber) and for vehicle batteries (100 kW source/sink).
