FZI Forschungszentrum Informatik

Our research shapes tomorrow

The FZI Research Centre for Information Technology is a non-profit institution for computer science application research and technology transfer. To support the mobility industry, which is traditionally strong in Baden-Württemberg and Germany, with practical ICT solutions on the way to the mobility of tomorrow has been an objective of FZI research since its foundation. Special attention is paid to the transfer to SMEs, industry, the research community and politics. Research currently focuses on novel mobility concepts and applications with an emphasis on public transport. Scientists at the FZI are developing new solutions for people and transport goods and work on supportive infrastructure systems. The spectrum of research ranges from the idea, system design and algorithms with a strong emphasis on the application of AI methods to testing. In this regard, we also take legal aspects into consideration. Virtual, semi-virtual and real testing also guarantees the safety and ruggedness of the solutions developed. The overarching goal is always to make mobility safe, sustainable and comfortable. For the transfer to small and medium-sized enterprises and industry, the FZI also retains testing areas, living labs and experimental vehicles for rapid market development of innovations.
