VERSATILE, SWABIAN, INGENIOUS
Located in the east of Baden-Württemberg, the Ostalb district borders the Free State of Bavaria with the districts of Ansbach and Donau-Ries. Within Baden-Württemberg, the Ostalb district is surrounded by the districts of Schwäbisch Hall in the north, Heidenheim in the south and Göppingen in the southwest. Its neighbour to the west is the Rems-Murr district, which already belongs to the Stuttgart region.
The Ostalb district is part of the federally funded programme HyLand — Hydrogen Regions in Germany. As a HyExperts region, an overall hydrogen concept is being developed for the Ostalb district and the Ostwürttemberg region.
The concept provides recommendations for action to create synergies between local stakeholders. In this way, the hydrogen islands are to grow together into a hydrogen ecosystem and sustainably anchor the hydrogen region.
In addition, the Ostalb district is part of the state and EU-funded project "Model Region Green Hydrogen". In this way, the state of Baden-Württemberg and the EU support the development of a hydrogen region in Ostwürttemberg. The members of the model region have organised themselves into an association and use the resulting synergy effects to build up a regional hydrogen economy. The Ostalb district is a member of this pioneering association.
