Always keeping pace with the times
The Institute for Forming Technology (IFU) was established over 60 years ago and has been part of the University of Stuttgart ever since. Our focus is on manufacturing-related topics in metal processing: forming and cutting processes, solid forming, shaping processes, material concepts/material characterisation, digitalisation in forming technology.
We utilize our experience gained from decades of research in the fields of material characterisation, FEM simulation, component and process design and analysis and IoT in series production for research into bipolar plate production. The IFU works on both research and industrial contracts and is constantly initiating new research projects and cooperations in this field. Our goal is to understand and digitally map the material behaviour of the component and the manufacturing process. For process development and manufacturing, this results particularly in saving money and time.
Thanks to the very well-equipped test field, IFU is also able to carry out industry-oriented endurance tests, among other things. This enables the IFU to work intensively on the topics of digitalisation and process monitoring.
